Those figures typically include removing and hauling the old system. Fascia work is added per foot when it is needed. The cost to replace gutters in Portland, Oregon tends to sit at the higher end of national ranges, mostly because of labor rates and steep, complex roofs.
Gutter guards
Screen guards typically run $5–$9 a foot, stainless micro-mesh $10–$20, reverse-curve $18–$30. Across 150 feet that is anywhere from $750 to $3,000. Usually cheapest when installed with new gutters.
Gutter cleaning and moss removal
Single-story $130–$220, two-story $190–$320, roof-edge moss treatment typically $80–$200 extra.
What moves the price
- Stories and pitch. Two-story work and steep cedar-shake roofs cost more for ladder standoffs, roof anchors and time.
- Roof complexity. Every inside corner is a mitre. A cut-up hip roof in the West Hills costs more per foot than a simple gable in Montavilla.
- Fascia condition. The biggest surprise on 1920s–40s homes. Ask whether the fascia was checked with a screwdriver before the quote, so it is not a surprise on the invoice.
- Gutter size and profile. Going from 5-inch to 6-inch adds roughly a fifth; half-round adds roughly a third over K-style.
- Downspout routing. Tying into a buried rain drain, or running pipe to daylight on a hillside lot, adds real money and is worth every dollar on a basement.
- Access. Dense rhododendrons, decks, steep driveways and lots you cannot get a truck near slow the work down.
Three illustrative examples
These are typical scenarios built from the ranges above, not specific jobs.
A 1926 bungalow in Sellwood, single story, 140 feet of gutter. Original half-round, rusted along the bottom, fascia soft at two corners. Aluminum half-round with four 3-inch round downspouts and 16 feet of fascia replaced: about $2,900–$3,600. In copper the same job is roughly $6,000–$7,500.
A 1972 ranch in Montavilla, single story, 160 feet. Sectional aluminum, seams weeping, one downspout on a 40-foot run. Five-inch seamless with 3x4 downspouts, one downspout added, drip edge on the back eave: about $2,000–$2,600.
A 1994 two-story in Beaverton, 220 feet, steep roof. Builder-grade gutters on spikes, overflowing at two valleys. Six-inch seamless with six 3x4 downspouts and micro-mesh guards: about $5,200–$7,000 with guards, $3,100–$4,200 without.
How to read a Portland gutter quote
Six things should be on it: the gauge (.032, not .027), hanger type and spacing (hidden screws at 24 inches), downspout size, whether the outlets are cut or punched, whether fascia and haul-away are in, and the contractor's CCB number — look it up on the Oregon CCB website before you sign. A gutter estimate Portland contractors hand you that lands $700 under the rest usually got there with thin metal, spikes and 2x3 downspouts — the same spec as the gutters coming off. If you started with a "gutter installation cost near me" search, this table is the Portland answer. The post on repair versus replacement covers when it is worth spending at all.
How to compare two written estimates
Put the bids side by side and turn each into the same units.
- Find the footage. Each bid should state the linear feet of gutter and the number of downspouts. If they differ by more than a few feet, ask why.
- Work out the price per foot. Divide the gutter total by the footage and find it in the table above.
- Match the spec. Gauge, gutter size, hanger type and spacing, outlet size and downspout size should be the same before the prices mean anything.
- Pull out the extras. Fascia, drip edge, guards, drain work and haul-away should each be a line. Add or remove them so both bids cover the same scope.
- Check the terms. Note how long each price holds, what deposit is asked, and what any warranty covers.
- Check the license. Look up each contractor's CCB number before you decide.
Once the scope matches, the gap between bids is usually smaller than it first looked.
Ways to keep the bill down
- Fix what is failing, not the whole house, when the gutters are aluminum and mostly sound.
- Do guards with new gutters, not as a separate visit later.
- Book in late summer for repair work, so sealant cures on a dry day and the job is not squeezed between storms.
- Clear access before the work starts: move cars, trim shrubs away from the walls, and open side gates.
- Ask for a repair price next to a replacement price, so you can see the real gap.
Costs people forget
Fascia is the big one on older houses, so ask for a per-foot price even if none is expected. Downspout extensions or drain reconnection matter on any house with a basement. Painting new fascia may not be included. If the work touches drainage or a historic house, ask the contractor or the City of Portland whether any permit or review applies.

Is it cheaper to repair or replace gutters?
Repair, if the gutters are aluminum or copper, under about 20 years old, and the problems are in a few spots. Replace if they are sectional, galvanized with rust along the bottom, or more than a third of the runs need work — patching can add up to the cost of a replacement.
How much are gutters for a 1,500 sq ft Portland bungalow?
Usually 130–160 linear feet of gutter, so typically $1,600–$2,400 for 5-inch seamless aluminum with 3x4 downspouts, $2,000–$3,300 for aluminum half-round, and $5,000–$8,000 in copper. Fascia repair on a 1920s house is the common extra.
Does homeowners insurance cover gutter replacement in Oregon?
Policies differ, so check with your insurer or agent. Sudden damage such as a windstorm, a fallen fir limb or an ice storm is more often covered than age, moss or wear. Photograph damage before anything is moved and ask the contractor for a written, itemized estimate.
Why are two quotes for the same house so far apart?
Usually because they price different things. One may use thinner metal, spike hangers, fewer downspouts and no fascia line; the other may include all of those. Match the spec line by line before comparing totals, and check each contractor's CCB license.
